NHS Dentistry

We Welcome New NHS Dental Patients

At Fleet Dental we don't discriminate between our NHS and private clients, as we are firm believers that dentistry and all its benefits should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstances.

If you are unsure if you qualify for free or subsidised NHS dentistry, then please speak to our receptionist on 01252 666976. If you are passing your local Post Office pick up the HC11 'Are you entitled to help with health costs' leaflet, or search for the publication name on the internet and read it online.

We'll be able to advise you whether you are entitled to free dental work, or if it is necessary to pay for your treatment upfront and claim a refund later. We're also able to direct you to dental loan facilities should your preferred option not be eligible for subsidy such as some cosmetic treatments, and only if spreading the cost of treatments doesn't cause any financial distress.

The general rule of thumb for NHS dentistry is that you receive treatment that we consider to be clinically necessary for you to maintain a high standard of oral health and hygiene. We want your mouth, teeth and gums to remain infection-free and functioning with the ability to chew and bite easily and unconsciously.

Our NHS clients are normally eligible for free or subsidised treatments for dentures, crowns, bridges, implants and braces when there is a medical, rather than an aesthetic need for them.

While there are charges for most NHS treatments they are heavily subsidised. The following categories are exempt from charges, though it is always best to double check your circumstances before embarking on any procedures: patients under 18 years of age, under 19 and in full-time education, pregnant or those who have had a baby in the 12 months before treatment starts.

Additionally you may also be exempt from some charges if you are on Income Support, income-related Jobseeker's Allowance and Employment and Support Allowance, or Pension Credit guarantee credit. Finally, if you are entitled to an NHS tax credit exemption certificate or named on a valid HC2 or HC3 low income certificate you too may be eligible for free or discounted treatment.
